Teams Now Has Data Loss Protection!
Red alert SharePointers! You can now set data loss policies for Microsoft Teams!
I don't know about you, but the ability to create a DLP policy for Teams has been one of my most wanted feature (private channels being the other, but I hear that feature is being tested internally at Microsoft). So, why is this a big deal? Think about how simple it would be for a user to share credit card or ssn information in a chat. Whether its is unintentional or not, internal or external, this is an activity that should be prevented at all costs.
Now, Microsft has given us the tools to deal with such a situation. Administrators will need to enable this feature as its disabled by default in a tenent. This new DLP feature also gives the administrator the flexibility to configure the policy to allow user to override the blocked message that DLP shows or report the instance as a false positive.
The Teams DLP settings are configured in the Security & Compliance Center. Teams is now listed as a location along with Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business (see picture below). Please note that this feature is not yet availablefor GCC organizations
